Ski Trip

Right after we got back from our cruise in November, Daniel got a brochure in the mail about an Emergency Medicine ski conference in Colorado taking place at the end of February.  He immediately wanted to go (who wouldn't?), but knew that he didn't dare go without me.  We started brainstorming ways we could make it happen...I wondered if I should feel guilty leaving the kids again so soon, but decided if Dan was for it, I should seize the opportunity to ski and have time alone with my husband.  We hadn't beeing skiing in three years and I'd pretty much written off this ski season too, but you just never know what will happen.

We left the kids in Tallahassee with Daniel's parents and headed out to Copper Mountain, CO.  It was so fun to just be together, go out for dinner every night, and most of all SKI!  I always forget how much I love it and it surprises me how your body just remembers how to do it - like riding a bike.  Daniel had lectures in the early morning and late afternoon, with most of the day open.  We just relaxed the first day and went ice skating (our first time skating together).
Then we skied the next two days.  The conditions were great - around 30 degrees and no lines to speak of.

We had a lot of fun and the kids did great too.  Every time we'd call to check in Daniel's parents would say really great things like: "The kids are being good as gold."  "We love them so much."  "They're eating well and go to bed so easily."  Just what a mom wants to hear when she's away!  The kids really enjoyed extended time with Papa and Gigi and Joshua was talking about all the things they did there for days afterward.

We've been blessed this year to be able to get away just the two of us and have quality time together, a change of pace, and be able to do activities we used to enjoy that are harder to do with kids.  It's been good for our relationship and we're so glad we have parents who gladly watch the kids for us.  I think the grandparents enjoy it too!
